THERE IS A WAY OUT OF THE HOGPEN

Luke 15:11-24

Intro: Many things could be said about sin.

Sin will take you farther than you want to go,

Sin will keep you longer than you want to stay,

Sin will cost you more than you want to pay.

As I look at this story, I can't help but wonder what made this young man

leave ho me... May be it was:

1. Dissatisfaction...family rules and regulations

2. Disillusion...the pasture looked greener

3. Desires...to see the world or to be on his own

Notice four steps to the hogpen...

1. His Departure...V 13

2. His Delight..V 13, As long as he had finances, he had friends

and fun.

3. His Disappointment...V 14, He ran out of funds and his friends

left him.

4. His Desperation... V 15-16, His joining, His job

NOTICE SEVEN STEPS FROM THE HOGPEN TO THE FATHER'S HOUSE

1. His Realization...V 17, He came to himself. He realized:

Where he was

What he had done

What he needed to do

2. His Resolution...V 18,1 will arise and go and say

3. His Return...V 20, Saying it is not enough.

So he arose, he came, he said...

4. His Reconciliation... V 20-21, He answered to the Father before

he ever went into the house.

5. His Reception...V 20, When he was a long ways off, His Father

saw him, had compassion, ran, fell, kissed.

6. His Restoration...V 22

1. the robe...His sins are forgiven

2. the ring...His standing in the family

3. the shoes...His shame is forgotten...to look at him now

you'd never know he had been to the hog pen. —He is completely

cleansed, covered, claimed

7. His rejoicing...V 23-24

1. the eating

2. the enjoying
