Baux Mountain Baptist Church
SOME THINGS THAT CANNOT BE SUBSTITUTED
I Kings 14:25-27
Intro: We live in a day of substitutes, salt, sugar, etc. Here in our text,
brazen shields were substituted in the place of the gold ones. You
always substitute something that is cheaper in the place of more
expensive things.
Churches also have become involved with substitutes.
We substituted:
A. Workshops in the place of worship
B. Programs in the place of power
C. Planning in the place of praying, etc.
BUT THERE ARE SOME THINGS WHICH CANNOT BE SUBSTITUTED.
I. THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR HOLY GHOST POWER
...He alone can:
A. Convict of Sin. ..John 16:8
B. Convert a Sinner..John 3:6
C. Conduct our Services...John 4:23-24
II. THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR HOLY GHOST PRAYING...
This is:
A. Coming into the presence of God...
B. Communing with the person of God...
C. Claiming the promises of God...
III. THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR HOLY GHOST PRAISING...
A. Praise Him with singing...Psm. 100:2; Acts 16:25
B. Praise Him with shouting...Psm. 47:1; Psm. 100:1
C. Praise Him with supplications...Matt. 6:9c
IV. THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR HOLY GHOST PREACHING...
—Today we have substituted:
A. Man's man (or woman) for God's Man
B. Man's message for God's Message
C. Man's ministries for God's Ministry (the LOCAL CHURCH)
V. THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR HOLY GHOST FILLED
PEOPLE...
—People who are:
A. Sure of their Salvation
B. Separated from their Sins
C. Saturated with the Scriptures
D. Surrendered to His Service
E. Satisfied with the Saviour
May God help us to give up the cheap substitutes and get back to the
real thing...
