CONTRARY WINDS THAT BEAT UPON THE CHURCH TODAY

Matthew 14:22-24

Intro: After Jesus feeds the multitudes, a type of His death, in verse 22

He constrained His disciples to get in a ship and go to the other side. As

they crossed the sea a great storm with contrary winds arose and beat

against the ship. The ship is a type of the local church, the sea is a type

of the world. Today as the church is in the world there are many winds

from without and within which are beating against the church. Today we

look at some of the contrary winds that beat against us from within.

I. THE CALOUSING WINDS OF CALVINISM...

*The false teaching of Calvinism:

A. Distorts the Book...II Peter 3:16

B. Dishonours the Blood...Limited atonement is blasphemy.

C. Destroys your Burden...Luke 14:21 & 23

II. THE CARNAL WINDS OF THE CHARASMATICS...

*These major on:

A. The gifts instead of the giver...

B. Their feelings instead of the facts...

C. The temporal instead of the eternal...

III. THE CHILLING WINDS OF THE COMPROMISERS...

Compromise will put out the fire:

A. In your Soul

B. In your Sermons

C. In your Services

IV. THE CONNIVING WINDS OF THE COMMERCIALISM..

This has become the day of:

A. Big Ministries...Rob local churches of their tithes and

rob Pastors of their honour.

B. Book Ministries...We are reading man's idea and not

finding out what God says.

C. Broadcasting Ministries... I am sure not against church-

centered, Christ-honoring broadcasts, but most of them

today use a "Funny Bible" that is not funny and rob local

churches of their money.

V. THE CRIPPLING WINDS OF THE CARELESS:

Too many church people are careless about:

A. Their Christian Life

B. Their Community Life

C. Their Children's Life
